Yesterday we spent about three hours walking around the cemetery and it's really lovely. The prettiest section is the Memorial Garden, which consists of many large rose gardens. Not only were the roses beautiful and plentiful, but a nice aspect is that each rose bush is a memorial to a loved one.
The cemetery is large and we didn't even see some parts of it. Also, it's beautifully-maintained. Some of the graves are quite old and overgrown, but that doesn't detract from the overall ambiance. Also, the man working at the entrance was very friendly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Daniel J.Ilford, Wielka Brytania171462220 gru 2008
It's very difficulty reviewing a cemetery, as it's unlikely you'll ever find one where you had a good time.
The City of London cemetery is a pretty big one. They were burying people a hundred years ago and they're still burying them today. My preference would be that people stop dying, but it seems that we don't have the option.
The cemetery is nice, if nice is the word. If you have to go to one, this is a nicely kept place; it is always looking fresh and green and beautiful; everything is well kept. What more can you really ask for?. You can ask for a jazz band, but it's unlikely you'll get one.
As far as cemeteries go, this is tops.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ham L.Londyn, Wielka Brytania1834514 lis 2008Pierwsza recenzja
A review of a Cemetery??? Well, yes. I'm not suggesting that it is a great place to go and die - although it might well be. It's actually a rather nice place to be. Quiet and peaceful, you get nice walking and its a great place for cycling with kids to build their confidence. Also, no mud paths even on the rainy days.
Don't underestimate it, they even have open days. Go and wander round, if you're in the area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Elle W.Londyn, Wielka Brytania7561922 wrz 2015
What more can I say about a cemetery where you can have tea and cake??
I don't get people being so wary of reviewing cemeteries. They're beautiful places, perfect for a bit of reflexive time and a peaceful walk. This one is lovely, very well kept, clean and safe. And huge! I believe it's not one of the Magnificent Seven of London, but it should.
There are some amazing funerary art from victorian times to appreciate; some mausoleums are things of beauty. The paved areas and monuments (the ones with no people buried underneath/inside) are nicely maintaned and add to the good vibe of the place - yes, you've heard right. :)
The tree lined avenues look absolutely stunning in autumn (it's almost time! wait untill mid to late october to be blown away!) and when spring comes you'll be enchanted by the daffodils, snowdrops, cyclamens and muscaris coming through the ground in colourful masses. I can't stress how beautiful it is and how happy it makes me. As "last homes" go, you could do a lot worse than being buried in this little piece of... heaven. :D
There's a tea shop by the entrance which I plan on visiting soon, whenever I'm there for my autumnal visit.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
