Dalloyau

I hadn't read about this place prior to popping into one near Luxembourg gardens, but after the amazing cake I had I was tickled to find another location very close to our hotel. My sister had macarons and I again had the 3 chocolate cake and a citrus tart. It was all so delicious. I purchased a bag of almond nougat as a gift, because I cannot imagine it isn't as good as everything else. Staff at both locations spoke English. Staff at this location was a bit friendlier and even offered me a free macaron!

Skip the lines at that other overly famous, overly hyped bakery that makes macarons, and get them here instead. They're just as good, if not better, and they are made locally, not frozen in Switzerland and flown to Paris to meet the outrageous demand. Everything else at Dalloyau is also delicious. I've had really good pizza there, and quiche, and their flan is to die for. This is one of my first stops every time I go to Paris, and I drop in every day while I'm there for one thing or another. Sweet or savory, I have never had anything bad from Dalloyau. The salesladies are always very polite about my stumbling attempts to speak French, and of course answer me in perfect English. I love Dalloyau!

I'm sad to say the pastries looked beautiful and yummy but the two that I purchased were terrible. The baba rhum was actually indelible... It was dry, stale, and lacked the moistness I was hoping to savor, needless to say I was terribly disappointed and introduced it to the trashcan instead of my stomach! The coffee religieuse reve (sp?) was not as bad, but nowhere near spectacular. The coffee cream not only had a weird aftertaste, but funny texture (like old pudding). These pastries are overpriced, I paid for the beauty of the pastries not the taste!

Everything looked so delicious, it was hard to choose one. We ended up ordering the Dalloyau and we weren't disappointed! The outside had a nice crunch and the inside was smooth and creamy. I can't wait to go back and try more!
