Located on the high street in charming Hampstead. This pub delivered a very British experience for our Friday lunch.
All wood and brass and big windows to let in the fresh air and sunshine.
After our walk around the beautiful Hampstead neighborhoods, we needed a respite.
We ordered the pie and mash for 2
It arrived piping hot in a lovely pastry case and was filled with chicken, leeks, mushrooms and peas in a delicious tarragon sauce. Plenty big to share. The sides were creamy buttery mash and tender cooked greens (cabbage & broccolini mostly) A little pitcher of tarragon chicken gravy came with.
A heavenly flavorful dining experience that will be fondly remembered as a highlight of our trip.

Stopped in for a pint and an appetizer with my daughter. Wonderful, prompt service. Great vibe. Delicious baked Camembert cheese platter with pickled vegetables. Generous portion with fresh garlic and herbs. Created a wonderful experience!

Our favorite pub in Hampstead! My daughter and I just spent a week in London, and we had a flat down the street from The Horseshoe. There are numerous excellent pubs in Hampstead, but the warm friendly environment of The Horseshoe kept us going back. That and the delicious menu. Try the burger and the croquettes, you will not be disappointed. I'm still kind of upset we didn't try the wings. They make an excellent cocktail and have a great wine selection. I can't wait until we are back next year, this will be our first stop.

So glad we stumbled upon The Horseshoe for a late lunch. Oh that typical old world, English pub ambience! Good drinks - mocktail Mojito was good and my dad's Camden Town brewery IPA hit the spot for him. Beef burger gave me the American taste that I was craving for in London while my dad went fully British with traditional fish and chips. Service was friendly. I hope to go back here on my next London trip and join their fun Monday night trivia quiz.

      Amazing Sunday roasts!
Original birthplace of Camden Town Brewery.
The taps here are the best of Camden we've had.

Sunday roasts are TOP notch. Some of the best we've had in the city. We will definitely be back

Staff was very friendly, very cute atmosphere

Walked in for lunch on Thursday and was seated immediately. They didn't have menus because their printer was broken but our server was able to explain everything to us. I want to make note early in this review, that the staff here is extremely friendly and prompt.

We ordered duck hearts to start, the beef burger and lamb rump for the mains and 2 beers. Sourdough bread and butter came complimentary. The total came out to £41 before tip.

I honestly have no criticisms for this place. The duck heart skewers were delicious. The beef burger came with a poppy seed bun and was very juicy, the side green salad had too many stems for my liking but was still very okay. The lamb rump was incredibly tender and moist, which I wasn't expecting. It came with a side of potatoes and you can't go wrong with potatoes. Overall, great meal and decent portion sizes. Definitely would come back to try their different roasts!

My friends and i were looking for a dog friendly restaurant that wasnt too pubby for dinner and we stumbled upon this place. I didnt have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of my cheeseburger, it was literally the best cheeseburger ive ever had! It was a no fuss cheesburger with a bit of lettuce, onion and gerkin but the patty itself was exceptionally good. The next day we decided to go back to try the roast dinner and once again were served the best roast ive ever had. Now let me say, the price points wernt high and this was a mid range pub but the quality of my meals were exellent. If i lived locally i would go back ever weekend for their burger and roast but i absolutely loved it and totally recommend it. The staff was nice and accommodating and the decor was pleasant enough but wow was the food good!

The Horseshoe is prominently situated on the high street, literally a stone's throw from the Hampstead underground station. It has the distinction of being the birthplace of Camden Town Brewery and open since 2006, but it has been recently refurbished.

The revamp has improved the atmosphere of the pub greatly, rendering it a more energetic and relaxed setting with a strong focus on the bar. The interior is less minimalist than I remember, the beer is prominently presented on a large chalkboard menu, the walls have been painted and the floors have been tiled.
We were on the hunt for a Sunday roast, but there was only a beef roast on the menu. I was disappointed as I don't eat red meat, and while the rotisserie chicken looked mouth-watering, it was a meal for two and my boyfriend couldn't be swayed from beef. I conceded and ordered a vegetarian plate of grilled polenta with mushrooms, artichokes and cannellini beans for my main.

We were provided with complimentary filtered and sparking water on the table- a nice touch, as I usually opt for plain tap water. We also had warm bread and butter brought to the table.

We ordered a smoked salmon starter paired with toast, capers and a lemon mayonnaise sauce. The salmon came in a generous helping and melted in the mouth. The toast and zesty mayo made it a substantial starter.

The roast arrived and the beef was exceptionally rare- my boyfriend commended it for this. The Yorkshire pudding was spot on and the trimmings consisted of imposing hunks of roast potato, carrots and green beans. It was a generous portion size, but I would have been keener on a wider medley of veggies- this is a bugbear of mine, whereas my boyfriend characteristically remarked that there wasn't enough gravy.

My polenta dish exceeded my expectations- it was bursting with colour and the polenta was charred and grilled nicely on the outside, retaining a pleasant soft texture on the inside. The dish was well seasoned and very flavoursome- it was a good lighter option for a Sunday.

The beer selection is fantastic (as expected) and the staff were very eager and pleasant, but service was a bit clumsy- this might be down to teething after the refurbishment, but we were given flat drinks and the wrong order was brought over to us- and this seemed to be happening with all of the tables in close proximity as well. Everything was quickly rectified, however, with profuse apologies.

I overheard some diners being turned away because the kitchen closes for a break at 4:30pm on a Sunday, so plan your visit accordingly. There were some tables available when we visited, but I imagine this can change very suddenly on a rainy day with walkers coming from the nearby Hampstead Heath.

Just along from Hampstead tube station, what was formerly the 'Three Horseshoes' has been thoroughly scrubbed up and re-opened as a gastro-pub, with its own micro-brewery.

The decor is minimalist, with a long bar, pale cream walls, wooden floors and bench-style tables, and is quite spacious. As well as their own brews, they have occasional guest real-ales, alongside a good range of bottled beers and an extensive wine list. It's fine as a venue for a drink.

The food generally has a good reputation, and I suspect the main meat dishes might impress (although at up to £18, they're quite pricey). But my experience is that it's all a bit too pretentious; the vegetarian items were OK, but over-priced; and I had the worst cheese-board I have ever had here: two tiny, miserable-looking pieces of slightly stale Stilton, with some fancy biscuits, decorated with red berries and a sort of rough fruit marmalade, all served on an oblong wooden platter, at a cost of £6.50. A decent piece of cheese, and a nice hunk of crusty bread with butter would have been far preferable. (It just confirms my prejudices about the dreaded gastro-pub label).

So for food, I'd recommend the Hollybush nearby - see separate review. As a venue, it can get very busy indeed, and seems to attract tourists and the gastro-pub crowd.
