From the outside the Sussex looks somewhat downmarket for a Wetherspoons pub. Step inside and it's actually not all that bad. It is a little bit dark but there are plenty of comfortable armchairs to sit in while you sip your coffee or eat your breakfast (isn't it strange how Qypers only ever drink coffee in pubs!).

It is, as you would expect from a Wetherspoons, cheap and this does attract some of the harder drinkers in the town but I've never witnessed any trouble or felt uncomfortable

This is not the best Wetherspoons in the world. Went in 10.30 on a Sunday morning at 10.30 to get a 'proper' Latte as other coffee shops didn't open until 11am.
Well the Lavazza coffee was OK for £1.10.
But oh!, it was full of hardened drinkers at that time, and not too pleasant.

The Sussex Pub is part of the Wetherspoons chain, and is in the main tourist area of Rhyl. The pub is open early for breakfasts, though you will see the odd drinker or two. The pub has a small terraced area, which is non-smoking, the interior of the pub is clean and tidy, a large seating area, mostly set out as tables of 4. The menu is standard Wetherspoons food, but with the touch of Welsh food dotted on the menu. The food is ok, reasonably priced, the service is good, the bar staff are friendly and the bar has a good selection of drinks including tradational ales.
The only let down to the pub, is the smokers cram to the doorway, so you end up almost pushing past to get in. There is a disabled toilet / baby changing room on the lower floor, with the main toilet facilities on the top floor. These are clean and spotless. The premises also serve childrens meal, which are very competatively priced. One aspect of the pub that I found very interesting was the information about Ruth Ellis, (she was the last woman to be hanged in Britain).

I have enjoyed many a meal at a Wetherspoons pub but I have never really enjoyed a meal here. In fact the Rumbletums cafe next door is much more appealing and value for money. The bar gets the usual crowd in for the cheap drinks etc, but does not appear to be as popular as recent years.

we visited with one of the family children,in most wetherspoons we sit in a family areas, for a meal if with children, however,i had been walking around a lot so needed to sit down, we entered, i could see no signs for or any info regarding the family room,so sat in the nearest seating, area,we got drinks but was readily approached by the manager or member of staff, because we had a child we was sitting in the wrong area,i did not like the way i was approached,i complained that if this was made clear with signs especially upon a first visit this would not have happended.
