Xander Salon

Carol is a master at what she does. I'm a broke college student who is very picky about her blonde hair.
She met my hair needs while not breaking my bank account, give her a visit!

NOTE: My review is based on the services received from Denise, my brow specialist.

Ambience: The salon is located in a small strip mall off Elm in Ballantyne, look for Sugar doughnuts, it's two doors down. The salon is a nice size, updated fixtures, clean and well lit. There are about 6 stations, shampoo bowls and a few dryers. Denise is located in the back of the salon, in a cute private room, used for waxing and facial services.

Service: I've come a few times and haven't had much of a greeting by the staff or front desk team member. I'm usually greeted with "Are you here for Denise? She'll be out shortly." (rarely does anyone tell her I'm there, I've had to inform her via text)
Denise is a brow whisperer. She is the ONLY person in Charlotte who touches my brows. I'd walk around looking like Oscar the Grouch before letting anyone else touch them. She is gentle and knowledgeable and if needed will put you on a regimen for growth/shaping. She's got a great personality and is easy going. Love her!

Pricing: Denise's prices are reasonable and competitive. They vary depending on service. She offers everything from waxing to microblading.

Overall I can't say much for the salon, but I will shout Denise's name from the rooftops. If you're in need of some brow love, holla at Denise.

I originally came here on a recommendation from a local friend who had her hair cut by a stylist who's no longer here.

Had highlights, keratin & cut done satisfactorily twice. Then was upset when there were brassy, orange areas in my long hair. Wanted to have Carole, the owner, do it since I'd seen some of her highlight work that was good.

Couldn't fit into her appointment schedule as she was traveling and had Cherry do it. Was dissatisfied with the color & appearance of "zebra" stripes near the scalp as it grew.

I called Carol, who said she'd take a look. She said it looked like 8 week's growth, but checking it she realized it was 4 weeks old.
(Normally lasts 10 weeks between coloring).

I was charged full price (which should have been discounted since it only lasted 4 weeks.
I was happy that Carol was doing it, figuring she'd be the best colorist experience-wise.
But it wasn't...same orange spots scattered through, she left the toner on too long to cover the orange and then the hair was way too dark.
She was busy re-doing another clients highlights while doing mine & must've lost track of time.

She then trimmed my bangs way too short and totally slanted...and, to add insult to injury...told me i had a cowlick & that's what the bang slant was. I'm 68 & have never had a cowlick in my very straight hair in my life!

I called her as soon as I got home and told her again she cut the bangs crooked. I had paid another $145 + tip for what looked like a botched do it yourself at home job. At this point I told her I wanted my money back. Her answer: no, I used product!

Beware of this salon! And Carol Alexander, the owner! Priced higher than the Ballantyne Hotel and sarcastic & sassy to boot!

This place is a joke and incredibly overpriced.
Not a warm welcoming to begin with unless you are friends with the owner. I waited nearly 30 min or more passed my appointment, the poor guy that cut my hair was not knowledgeable at all, gave me a safe cut not what I had asked for, didn't know how to style my hair nor had the tools for what I wanted to do. The place is not that clean nor trendy. No would not recommend and def not going back.

I'm new to the area and was so happy a friend recommended Xander's Salon! It has a warm and friendly atmosphere. The salon is clean and decorated nicely. It's conveniently located near Rea Rd. I only see one stylist there and BJ has made my hair healthy again. She has had years of experience and really listens to your needs and concerns! She's a top notch professional. She gets you in and out in a timely fashion! I love my hair now! As far as the other stylist, from observation they appear to be just as knowledgeable and professional! I highly recommend you visit and find out yourself!

Balayage & blondes beware. 4.5 hours later & $210 (which I was later told that I was given a "25% discount"...) they offered to fix it but I was not comfortable with them touching my hair again. Save yourself the trouble and the money & skip this salon.

Still my favorite salon!!

I love that I have found a salon in the area that I love. Warm and friendly staff, water cooler (which is super important to me...facts) and coffee/tea station and they actually keep appointments! Some of the major reasons I have not consistently patronized a salon are long waits and little to no professionalism. Xander salon is the opposite! When I walk into a salon, I love feeling like my business is valued and I definitely get that when I come here and I walk out of this salon feeling like my money was well spent.
On each and every visit, I am greeted with a smile and warm hello. Destiny has been doing my hair and she is an absolute joy! Super knowledgeable and friendly. Her styles are creative and she make hair care a priority which is important to me. I love the way she interacts with her colleagues and I can't say enough how professional everyone is. You will hear you typical beauty salon banter but is so friendly and makes me feel welcome every time I come in. I usually get a blow out and trim and have gotten curls for special occasions.... I am looking forward to Destiny doing my crochet braids, although I'm not looking forward to the price. I think $175 is a bit high for that service but I also think customer service goes a long way so I am willing to pay a less than competitive price. I also can't wait for my next special occasion to get my makeup done by the artist in the salon. I can't recall her name but I have seen her clients walk out looking like a page out of InStyle or Essence mag. She does great work and I can't wait to see what she can do to me! Great salon with a great team!

Very friendly staff and I just drop in with my son, although it's not always convenient for them they are always very understanding and do what they can to squeeze him in. My son just gets a simple "clean up" and so far he has always been pleased. Although they are always accommodating, I would suggest making an appointment they are very busy.
