The Bird Feeder

This small-ish shop is packed with bird-related items, especially feeders, houses, and food. There are also pretty windchimes, bird-related knick-knacks, numerous bird books, and a small stand of jewelry. While many of the bird feeders highlight their squirrel-proofiness [just roll with my word, please], the store does include specific squirrel food for those who embrace these as well. The staff is friendly and full of knowledge about the store's wares.

Love this place! I'm addicted.

We moved to a new house in Reston and the place has an amazing back deck that spans the entire length of the house and backs up to a wood patch and then a golf course.

Walked in and the store is full of so many things, that it is literally overwhelming. We decided to stop in about 30 minutes before closing and the lady was sooooooooo very patient with us and so knowledgable!! Ended up buying a tubular feeder, a green 'house', and of course shell-less seeds and suets.

I didn't price compare anything and probably won't because I'm so happy with the customer service they've provided us. And they have so many things in that store from bird supplies obviously but they have a lot of artwork, too. Of course, educational stuff like books and brochures and such, too.

I've been back there probably about 6 more times since the initial visit. Went back for books and pamphlets to help identify the birds we were seeing in our back yard as well as more feed.

Saw something strange outside the store and had no clue it was simply a WATER feeder that hangs from the tree, too. lol The lady behind the register could barely contain her composure. I'm sure she thought I was an idiot but I never thought bird 'baths' feeders could be hung! Now I want one.

The hummingbird feeder we bought attracted 2 dueling hummingbirds and it was entertaining to watch them chase each other off. Same with the tubular bird feeder....one bird would chase the other birds around it until they flew off. It was the tiniest bird of them all!

Anyway, probably gonna go back and get that hanging water feeder.

We literally keep the books, pamphlets and binoculars by our end table so we can identify the birds that show up. We saw a Hawk chase after a meal (i.e, one of MY birds) which made me quite sad until Hubby said "Well, we're fattening up the local birds and the birds are fattening up the Hawk." Sigh. True.

My only drawback? Hmmm.... Some days there are soooooo many birds on my back deck that I feel like I'm in an Alfred Hitchcock horror flick!!

Still though.....I'm hooked.

This store is like a hidden gem! It is filled with beautiful bird feeders & decorations for your garden & your house! The staff was very knowledgeable & helpful before I purchased the right feeder for my needs.

The Bird Feeder is my favorite shop in Reston! They have a large selection of bird food and the staff are all very knowledgeable about birds and feeders and such. In addition to food and feeders, they have all kinds of gifts ... many I have bought for friends and family and many I have bought for myself. (Nice quality T-Shirts, SUPER nice quality (and USA-made) earrings, greeting cards, novelty socks ... and much more. They have a large selection of beautiful bird baths too!

Helpful staff, great selection. The staff/owners really care about birds. Plus the only place I know of that sells the pepper-infused bird seed that squirrels stay away from.

They do a great job of helping you find what you want and need. Susan was very helpful to me today getting a new bird house. She sent me pictures, discussed all the options and then put it in my trunk when I came by for pick up. They also have a great selection of everything related to birds! Thanks!

Small mom and pop shop dedicated to all things for the urban bird watcher, feeders, houses, roosting boxes, bird baths, tools for cleaning all of the above, poles for hanging them, and a nice selection of gifts. Great stuff!

If you want to feed birds and not squirrels and chipmunks please purchase the hot pepper bird food. The staff are cordial, knowledgeable and always pleasant to chat with. It is nice that they observe religious holidays.

I am in love with this store! I have been there three times now and have been helped by three different employees. Each of them was very knowledgable, friendly and ultimately gave me great advise. It is of note that at each of my visits other customers came into the store who were obvious "regulars" but the staff never made me feel less important in any way. Also, the other customers were friendly and seemed to enjoy sharing their own bird/squirrel advise. As a new bird-feeding enthusiast this was particularly fun.
The store has an amazing selection of high quality feeders, accessories, bird baths and feed. So now I have a great feeder, a beautiful birdbath and two adorable mobiles to go above my son's cribs. Fabulous products! With service to back it up, they have made a loyal customer of me.

Best bird seed selection. Pricey bird houses and feeders but they only carry the best. You can by cheaper versions but they break.
